The “GREEN FUELS AND TECHNOLOGIES SESSION,” jointly organized by the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping and Piri Reis University, was held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Piri Reis University’s Sea Campus. The session was part of the Green Transformation in Maritime Platform Programs, launched to strengthen university, industry and public sector collaboration based on energy, environment and sustainability in maritime, to find solutions to sector-specific problems and to develop recommendations. Sector innovations, discussions with industry representatives, focal points based on the roadmap and stakeholder solutions were discussed during the session. The second session of the platform, “Digital Transformation in Maritime,” will take place in April. Like the Green Fuels and Technologies Session, it will bring together distinguished universities and participants from the public and private sectors.

The Green Fuels and Technologies Session, the first session of the Green Transformation in Maritime Platform jointly organized by the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping and Piri Reis University, was an important step toward strengthening sector collaboration by bringing together representatives of the public sector, universities and industry. The event offered an opportunity for in-depth discussion of the potential of green transformation and technological developments in the maritime sector. The session aimed to bring together the valuable views, shared knowledge and forward-looking action proposals that emerged during the event, and it produced effective outcomes.

In light of the environmental challenges facing our world and sustainability goals, the maritime sector’s need for green energy solutions is growing every day. As a response to a sector need, this platform provided an environment where all stakeholders contributing to decision-making processes could exchange ideas. With around 150 participants, the Green Fuels and Technologies Session was a productive meeting where important strategic ideas were discussed for solving sector problems, particularly those related to FuelEU. With the contributions of the IMEAK Chamber of Shipping, Turkish Lloyd and industry stakeholders, the event created new perspectives and collaboration opportunities that will accelerate the green transformation process. Building on the findings of this session, the platform aims to guide all stakeholders who wish to follow developments in green fuels and maritime technologies.

Participation in this event is free of charge.
