As part of the Power Plants course, offered at Piri Reis University for the first time this year and taught by Dr. Murat Akpınar, a field-based learning activity was held.

Within the scope of the course, students made a technical visit to the Kömürcüoda Biogas Power Plant, operated by Yeşil Global Enerji A.Ş., where they had the opportunity to examine energy generation processes on site.

During the field session, students learned about gas formation in sanitary landfills, the collection of this gas and its transfer to gas engines, the operating principles of gas engines, and their maintenance and repair processes. Technical information was also provided on electricity generation and the transmission of the generated energy to the grid via power lines.

During the visit, students also had the chance to observe on site the operating system and processes of the 2.8 MW ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) unit, which runs on the exhaust waste heat of the gas engines.

We would like to thank Plant Manager Yusuf Enön, Odayeri Plant Manager Mehmet Yeşil, Maintenance Engineer Suat Karaman, Maintenance Supervisor Burak Kurd and Operations Supervisor İsmail Şimşek for their valuable contributions to the technical visit and for their hospitality.
